Use AI for prototyping, validation, and side projects. Hire a web designer once revenue, brand reputation, or SEO matter — pure AI output rarely converts, rarely ranks, and rarely differentiates you from competitors using the same prompts.
When AI is enough
Pre-revenue MVPs, internal tools, landing pages for paid traffic testing, and any case where the site is a means to an end (not the product itself). AI tools like Lovable, Bolt, and v0 ship usable sites in hours.
When you need a designer
Once the site is the storefront, the brand promise, or the lead source. AI cannot do conversion psychology, brand voice, or competitive differentiation at the level a senior designer can — and AI sites struggle to rank because Google increasingly downrank thin, lookalike output.
